"I have to win with Ducati", said Valentino Rossi, speaking to motogp.com at the annual Ducati "Wrooom" event, held over five days last week, at the Madonna di Campiglio resort in the Italian Dolomites.
Offering no guarantees of success in 2012, the Italian star feels confident of a better season this year, although he admits that Ducati is still some way off the performance of other marques, especially Honda.
At 32 years of age, Rossi still believes that he has the ability, and ambition, to show the many talented younger riders a clean pair of heels, but some observers may read his comments as being driven by loyalty to the Italian motorcycle manufacturer, rather than realistic expectations.
Questioned as to a possible return to a Japanese bike,"Vale" discounted this as "unlikely" although "not impossible."
At any rate, the seven-times World Champion appears committed to Ducati for at least two (including the current) seasons.
"Wrooom" concluded with an exhibition display, between Ducati's MotoGP riders and Ferrari's F1 drivers, in a kart race on ice, a now-traditional closing spectacular.
