The new season kicks off on 8th April, with the Commercialbank Grand Prix Of Qatar, at Losail circuit. As usual, during the winter break, riders are both training, to keep fit, with mixed results, and getting injuries repaired, as demonstrated by Nicky Hayden's accident whilst returning to activity last week, when he crashed during his first session since breaking his scaphoid at Valencia in November. The latest tumble, on a private indoor flat track facility, left him with a broken scapula and fractured ribs, which make the Ducati rider a "doubtful" for the first winter test session of 2012, in Sepang, on January 31.

Better news for Alvaro Bautista, who is recovering from an operation to remove pins from his left leg, with which he rode throughout last year's racing, and recently across Africa with Riders for Health ! The Spanish rider is confident that he will be fully fit for the forthcoming Sepang action.

Already in place, in memory of the #58 pilot, is a non-profit organization, "The Marco Simoncelli Foundation", set up by family and friends of the popular, and sadly missed, young Italian, with the intention, as explained by father Paolo Simoncelli, "that through keeping the memory of Marco alive we can help alleviate suffering of those who are worse off than us."

An inaugural event, on January 20, will be "Happy Birthday Sic", at the 105 Stadium in Rimini, when comedians from the TV show "Zelig" and many of Marco's friends from the MotoGP Paddock, are expected to take part in an "evening designed for fun" to celebrate his life and achievements.
