Cal Crutchlow, Monster Yamaha Tech 3, is "Rookie of the Year" in the Premier Class of MotoGP 2011, and the British rider will celebrate his title, also first year competing at the pinnacle of motorcycle racing, by firing up his racing Yamaha on the Black Horse stage, to help kick off Motorcycle Live, which starts this Saturday.
Whilst the teams look forward to the first race of the 2012 MotoGP season, with the COMMERCIALBANK GRAND PRIX of QATAR, on 20th March, there is still plenty of action, as the Repsol Honda team emerged top of the field, during two day testing at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia, 8th and 9th of this month.
Dani Pedrosa was fastest, followed by Casey Stoner, as some riders worked with the new-year 1000cc machines, and experienced the debut outing for Bridgestone's 2012 specification tyres.
The new family of Bridgestone tyres has been developed with the objectives of achieving easier riding characteristics, by improving warm-up performance, and with a wider temperature operating range. Rider feedback was positive, as the tyre manufacturer took a marked step forward in "addressing the specific concerns from this year".
Number two in the 2011 World Champion title stakes, Yamaha Factory Racing's Jorge Lorenzo, continues to recover following surgery to assist the repair of his hand injury, which meant that he missed the last two rounds at Sepang (cancelled), and Valencia. Indications are that he will be fit to ride during the Official MotoGP Test at Sepang, January 31st to February 2nd, 2012.
