This Sunday, 6th November, the 2011 MotoGP World Championship series concludes, with the Gran Premio Generali De La Comunitat Valenciana, in Spain.

The tragic death of Marco Simoncelli, the 24 year-old San Carlo Honda Gresini rider who passed away following an horrific crash at the start of the, subsequently cancelled, Sepang event, continues to cast a dark shadow over the MotoGP paddock, and many will sympathise with Ducati Team's Valentino Rossi, whose troubled debut year with Ducati will end with the knowledge that he was involved in the incident which lead to his friend and fellow Italian's sad demise. Insult, indeed, is added to injury.

Absent from the grid, at Valencia, will be likely be Yamaha Factory Racing's Jorge Lorenzo, recovering from surgery to repair a hand injury, which could have put an end to his racing career, and Colin Edwards, Monster Yamaha Tech3, who sustained shoulder damage in the Sepang disaster, in which he, like Rossi, was a without-fault participant.

2011 MotoGP World Champion and runner-up positions are already decided, in favour of Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner, and Jorge Lorenzo respectively. The battle for number three, remains to be fought to a conclusion, between team-mates Andrea Dovizioso and Dani Pedrosa, with Repsol Honda.
