This Sunday sees event number 16, of 18, in the 2011 MotoGP World Championship, with the Iveco Australian Grand Prix, at Phillip Island, and the home race for standings leader, Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner.

Last year, the Phillip Island race winner was indeed Stoner, then with Ducati Team, whilst Fiat Yamaha riders at the time, Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi, were second and third.

The battle for the 2011 World Championship title is not yet over, with Jorge Lorenzo, on 260 points, and 40 behind Casey Stoner, at 300. It would take some major misfortune to demolish the Australian rider's lead, but anything can happen !

Stoner's Repsol Honda team-mates are in third and fourth positions, with Andrea Dovizioso on 196, and Dani Pedrosa just one point behind, with 195.

Valentino Rossi, for Ducati Team, is trailing behind the leaders, at 139 points.

The penultimate event of the season is at Sepang, on 23rd October, being the Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix. The series ending at Valencia, on 6th November.
