Last Sunday, the 15th event of a scheduled 18, in the 2011 MotoGP World Championship, took place, with the Grand Prix of Japan, at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit.
Despite fears that several top riders would not attend the Japanese event, due to concerns following the disaster which hit the Country in March, all the main contenders turned out for an incident packed race, which saw a faultless ride from Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa, who took HRC's first MotoGP victory at Motegi. Yamaha Factory Racing's Jorge Lorenzo was second, followed by Pedrosa's team-mate, Casey Stoner, in third place.
Victims of crashes and ride-through penalties, during the 24 lap race, included Valentino Rossi, who got no further than the first corner; then, variously unfortunate, Barbera, Bautista, Crutchlow, Cudlin, Dovizioso, Elias and Simoncelli !
Casey Stoner continues to lead the Championship standings, by 40 points, with three rounds remaining.
Event number 16, as the series draws to a close, will be held on 16th October, at Phillip Island, being the Iveco Australian Grand Prix.
