Biker dies during Anti-Helmet Protest

In the States, where the freedom to express personal preference is highly valued, an American protest ride against the New York law requiring all motorcyclists to wear helmets, ended in tragedy when a rider taking part, without a helmet, crashed and died following an event which doctors claimed would otherwise not have proved fatal.

"ABATE", American Bikers Aimed Toward Education, held the protest meeting near Syracuse last weekend, and the participant who sadly died was a 55 year old Harley Davidson rider, in an accident on Saturday on Route 11 in Onondaga, New York. After losing control, he crashed, hitting his head on the pavement and suffering a helmet-less trauma, from the consequences of which he passed away.

Reports are, that most of the protesters put their helmets back on as they left the scene.
