Last weekend saw the AIRASIA BRITISH GRAND PRIX hit Silverstone, and race day dawned damp and cold, but Bridgestone's wet tyres saw Casey Stoner safely home to take his fourth win of the 2011 season, ahead of Repsol Honda team-mate Andrea Dovizioso, second, and Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards, with a long overdue podium place in third.

Cal Crutchlow was unable to represent Great Britain at his home race, due to injury sustained during Qualifying Practice, whilst Dani Pedrosa's Championship hopes dwindled further as he remained unfit to ride.

In atrocious conditions, "DNF's" included reigning World Champion Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha Factory Racing), Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini), and Lorenzo's team-mate, Ben Spies.

Silverstone welcomed 157,000 fans over the three days of the AIRASIA event, with the British Grand Prix being the first motorcycle event to inaugurate the new Silverstone Wing, about which both Dorna Sports SL and the teams were highly complementary.

MotoGP leaves the UK with Casey Stoner at the head of the World Standings on 116 points. Jorge Lorenzo is second with 98, and Andrea Dovizioso has 83, in third place.

Next time out, Saturday 25th June and the IVECO TT, at Assen in the Netherlands.
