As 125cc new machine registrations head in the right direction at the start of the New Year, MotoGP offers the home audience much interest in the shape of a total of eight British riders competing in the forthcoming season's championship racing.
Cal Crutchlow flies the flag for UK fans in his debut season of MotoGP, whilst Scott Redding, Bradley Smith and Kev Coghlan contest Moto2. Danny Webb, Danny Kent, Taylor Mackenzie and Harry Stafford ride in the 125cc category, to make a total complement of eight 'home' contenders. This is the first season since 1989 that so many "Brits" have taken part in Grand Prix racing on a full-time basis.
Five of the eight have come to the Grand Prix arena through the Red Bull MotoGP Academy, and two via the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies' Cup.
Success for members of the UK squad can only heighten home interest in two-wheel adventure, and encourage more young people to take up motorcycling, which can be just the boost our industry needs !
The 2011 World Championship season kicks off at Qatar's Losail circuit, on 20th March.
