Japan's Motegi circuit, is the setting for this weekend's MotoGP round, the Grand Prix of Japan, which was postponed early in the season, during the volcanic ash disruption.

In April 2009, the winner in Japan was Jorge Lorenzo, with Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa second, then third, respectively.

Fiat Yamaha's Lorenzo starts at Motegi with 284 Championship points, followed by Dani Pedrosa, Repsol Honda, on 228, and Ducati's Casey Stoner trailing in third, at 155.

Reigning title holder, Valentino Rossi, Fiat Yamaha, has 140 points, and is clearly struggling with injury, also set-up problems. That he will complete the season, seems in doubt.

Mathematically, the Spanish #26 rider could still take the 2010 World Championship title, but this seems unlikely to come off now.

Stop Press ! In a crushing blow to his Championship Title hopes, Pedrosa will not ride at Japan, having suffered a broken collar bone at the start of Practice in Motegi. It remains to be seen, whether or not he will be fit to complete the season.

Next time out, after this weekend, with just four rounds remaining this year, 10th October, and the Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, at Sepang.
